n the heart of Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable
National Park, a remarkable story unfolds—
one that celebrates the extraordinary biodiver-
sity of this cherished land and pays tribute to
Ithe unsung heroes who dedicate their lives to
safeguard it.
The guardians of this ecological jewel, the wild-
life rangers of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
(BINP), stand as custodians of its treasures, pro-
tectors of its habitats, and champions of the iconic
mountain gorillas. These remarkable individuals
serve as the forest's eyes, ears, and voice. They are
dedicated conservationists, tireless defenders of wild-
life, anti-poaching warriors, knowledgeable guides,
educators, mentors, and peacemakers. In every sense,
they are the stewards of this land.
"The Hearts of Bwindi" is a poetic documentary
short film, directed by filmmaker Charli Doherty and
produced in collaboration with TGB Films. This com-
pelling narrative takes us into the daily lives of BINP
rangers, who work with unwavering commitment to
safeguard the mountain gorillas and the rich natural
environment surrounding them.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, dating back
over 25,000 years, is one of Uganda's oldest and
most biologically diverse rainforests. Located in the
south-western part of Uganda, this protected area
is a realm of mist-covered hills, dense foliage, and
rugged terrain. It is home to nearly 400 plant species,
around 120 mammal species, 350 bird species, over
60 reptiles and amphibians, and at least 200 butterfly
species. Most importantly, it serves as a sanctuary for
approximately 459 mountain gorillas, nearly half of
the global population.
